Drummer
Ioannis Vafeas was born in Limassol, Cyprus
in 1970. In 1990 Ioannis was accepted at Berklee
college from were he graduated in 1994. In 1998
he graduated from the cooperative jazz masters
program of The Boston Conservatory and Berklee
College of Music. Ever since he has been an
active musician and has been performing and
teaching in Cyprus, Europe and Middle East.
He has been a member of the group Mosthe who
represented Cyprus at the Bienale festival in
Rome and of the Cyprus Jazz Quartet.
In
2008 Ioannis performed jazz/fusion with: Ari
Roland, Gilad Atzmon, Rembrandt Frerichs, George
Kontrafouris, Ilija Reijngoud, Adam Pieronczyk,
Frank Harrison, Ofer Ganor and Mamelo Gaitanopoulos.
He has also performed music of other styles
along with Johnny Logan, the Moscow Symphony,
the C.S.O, George Dalaras, Christos
Thiveos,
Maria Farantouri, Michalis Hatzigiannis and
Miltiades Paschalides. Ioannis is also a founding
member of the Jazz Fusion band The Petsteppers.
Last May The
Petsteppers released their
first c.d "The Petsteppers 2008" and
performed their music at the Cracow Jazz Festival.
Ioannis is endorsing Zildjian Cymbals.
