The beginning of July sees the release of a new album by the popular group Trio Tekke, with the title ‘Samas’. This long- awaited second album, which was produced in Nicosia, has been in the pipeline for a year now. It will include twelve new songs, four covers and eight originals.

To promote the album release concerts/ presentations will take place in different venues around the island. Antonis Antoniou (tzouras, vocals, compositions) and Lefteris Moumtzis (guitar, voice), joined by Colin Somervell, who is travelling from London for the shows, will give 6 performances in total. It’s worth mentioning that last February the band had a very successful tour of England, playing 8 concerts in various cities including London, Oxford and Brighton at important venues like The National Theatre, Green Note and more.

History

Trio Tekke was formed in London in 2005. What sparked the creation of the group was the mutual love for the old Rempetiko song. During the period 2005 – 2008 they gigged heavily in London and its surrounding towns as well as other European countries like Germany, Spain and Ireland. In Cyprus they became very popular through their summer appearances of the period 2006 – 2008, mainly at Dogstock Festival and the University of Cyprus Festival at Axiothea and more recently Rialto Theatre’s Ethnic Festival. In 2009 they released their first album ‘ Ta Reggetika’, a collection of imaginative, peculiar and entertaining covers of old Rempetiko songs as well as some original songs in similar style.  This record has been a favorite for the Cypriot music lovers and its sales make it one of the most successful Cypriot productions of recent years.
