Theodora Athanasiou is born in Athens. She is a graduate of the Department of
Primary Education, University of Patras.
Her musical career began when at
the age of six started working as a self-taught on bouzouki and later on folk
guitar and baglama, by participating in school bands.
By the age of 19 she
started working as a musician in nightclubs and in the last six years she deals
systematically with the study of the Greek musical tradition of the East in lute
and yayli tambur, with Evgenio Voulgaris as her teacher.
She completed a
five-part course in Greek folk music and instrumentation at the Municipal
Conservatory of Patras, while has attended seminars on other musical traditions
of the East (Persian rantif last year, Afghan Rabab), at musical workshop
“Labyrinth”.
She studies Byzantine music with Dimitris Galanis and Emmanuel
Dalaras. Has attended singing lessons placement and speech production with
director Maria Panoutsou and has played in theatrical performances, while the
last four years she gives voice lessons and teaches lute focusing on the Greek
repertoire of East. Recently, in collaboration with Eugene Voulgaris, Dimitris
Mystakidis and Apostolos Tsardakis, released the cd entitled
"Apsilies.
